The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in the name of spokesman Lim Su-seok on the 1st and said, “Our government strongly condemns Russia’s attack on Ukraine in violation of the United Nations Charter.”
“The sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine must be respected,” he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the annexation of four Ukrainian provinces: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporiza and Kherson the day before and signed a related agreement.
Russia held a referendum in these four regions for five days starting on the 23rd, and the electoral commissions of the four regions announced that the residents voted in favor of the annexation with Russia with an overwhelming majority of 87-99% of the votes in favor.
