The box office revenue of the movie “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK” exceeded 10 billion yen on February 7, 67 days after its release. The number of people being mobilized has been more than 6.87 million.
In South Korea, which has been released since January 4, it rose to the top of the box office for the first time on January 27. Since then, it has been ranked No. 1 for 12 consecutive days, and the cumulative number of viewers exceeded 2.43 million (*Source: Korea FILM COUNCIL).
SLAM DUNK
A shinen manga by Takehiko Inoue that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from No. 42 in 1990 to No. 27 in 1996. Based on high school basketball, it depicts the personal growth of players, and the cumulative circulation of the series in Japan over 120 million copies.
The thrilling picture of the game and the characters who bet their youth on basketball generated sympathy among junior and senior high school students, and received tremendous support. As a result, many boys and girls started playing basketball, and television animation (October 1993 to March 1996) and games were also produced. In 2020, we celebrate 30 years since the serialisation.
