Korea’s first national athletes vowed to excel ahead of the 2022 World Dance Sports Federation (WDSF) World Break Championships to be held in Seoul next month.

At the World Championships Media Day held in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 19th, Kim Jong-ho (29), the captain of the national team, said, “It’s good that a big tournament called the World Championships is held in Korea. I don’t think I’ve ever trained so hard while cutting.”

Kim Jong-ho, Choi Seung-bin (29), Jeon Ji-ye (23), and Kim Ye-ri (22) were selected for the national team by coming second in the men’s and women’s divisions in the first national selection match. which took place in November last year. He was set to compete in the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China this month. However, the Asian Games were postponed for a year due to the fallout from the new coronavirus infection. It was first shown at the World Championships held in Korea. The World Championships will be held on the 21st and 22nd of next month at SK Handball Stadium in Seoul Olympic Park.

In Breaking, various dance moves are performed to the music for a short period of less than a minute, and the judges decide the winner by scoring points based on various detailed items such as technical difficulty, stage management ability, and originality. It became an official event at the Paris 2024 Olympics as well as the Asian Games.

In the Olympic Games, a maximum of four athletes, two men and two men from each country, take part. There is no limit on the number of participants per country at the World Championships, which will be held for the first time after the WDSF confirmed the Olympic qualification classification system. An official from the Korea Dance Sports Federation said, “This is expected to be the biggest world championship ever, with 420 people from 70 countries participating.”

The national team players entered the Jincheon Athletes Village in April and began training with coach Seong-guk Cho. Choi Seung-bin said, “Until I came to the athletes’ village, it was difficult to train systematically while working at the same time. I feel like I’ve definitely improved by living a regular life here, eating well, and training.”
