Symphony conductors are invited to conduct folk music, and famous folk music masters from three generations of old, middle and young generations are on stage. Classics and innovative works of folk music coexist. The traditional and modern interpretations show the inheritance and development of folk music, and also allow more people to understand and get close to folk music.

The NCPA’s first “Spring of Chinese Music” folk music theme art festival was launched on April 8 and will continue until April 28. As the first specially planned art festival on the theme of folk music launched by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, “Spring of National Music” upholds the concept of inheriting and promoting the essence of folk music, with a view to promoting the prosperity and development of China’s folk music industry.

Interpret the color, line and rhythm of folk music works

In the specially planned concert at the opening, conductors Li Xincao, Lv Jia and Liu Sha joined hands with the Central Chinese Orchestra to bring to the audience Chinese orchestral works such as “Yunshan Yanmiao”, “General’s Order” and “Summer of Colorful Colors”. It is worth mentioning that this performance is the first time for Li Xincao and Lv Jia to conduct folk music across borders. Zhao Cong, head of the Central Chinese Orchestra, said that the symphony conductor was invited to conduct folk music this time, hoping to achieve a combination of breadth and depth.

“There are thousands of mountains in the clouds, and the road to return is far away, and the wind is thousands of miles away.” At the concert that night, Lv Jia, who was the first to appear, conducted a song “Yanmiao in the Clouds and Mountains”. “Yan Miao in Yunshan Mountain” is developed, varied and reconstructed around the theme of the Chaozhou zheng piece “Eighteen Beats of Hu Jia”. Under the command of Lv Jia, it reproduces the legacy of Han and Tang Dynasties and the grand atmosphere of Chaozhou music. “This is the first time for me to conduct a folk orchestra. It is a new challenge and joy to work with folk music performers, especially to interpret the colors, lines and rhythms of folk music works, which is very fulfilling.” Lv Jia said, “Although I have never conducted a folk orchestra before, I am very concerned about the development of folk music. How to further develop and expand our national treasure is a major and urgent issue. As a conductor, I will do my part. .”

Li Xincao brought the national orchestra “National Style” and “Silk Road” to the audience. The new work “National Style” specially commissioned by the Central Chinese Orchestra is based on the theme of the traditional work “Three Lanes of Plum Blossoms”. Li Xincao said: “I have little experience with large-scale folk orchestral music. This is the first time I have conducted a complete large-scale folk orchestral piece in Beijing. However, I think Eastern and Western music are still similar, and the command of Western music has a lot to do with syntax and musical character. The same requirements apply to Chinese folk music.”

Show the heritage, ductility and artistry of folk music

The first “Spring of Chinese Music”, with the theme of “National Style and Elegance”, invited nearly 10 national orchestras from all over the country to perform in the concert hall of the National Grand Theater, the small theater and other stages. Among them, there are not only the Central Chinese Orchestra, the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, the China Coal Mine Art Troupe, the Beijing Chinese Orchestra, the Chinese Music Orchestra of the China Conservatory of Music and other Chinese orchestras in Beijing, but also the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, the Hebei Chinese Orchestra, and the Jilin Provincial Chinese Orchestra. The national orchestra plays the characteristic national music of different regions, showing the development of Chinese national music.

In terms of artistic lineup, three generations of Chinese music masters will perform on stage. In terms of repertoire, the performances range from ancient songs that have been passed down for many years such as “Spring River Flower Moon Night” and “The Overlord Unloads Armor”; The masterpieces of the first-class contemporary composers, and then to the works of young composers, the classics and innovative works coexist. Wang Luli, deputy director of the performance department of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, said that the “Spring of Chinese Music” is a platform and stage to focus on displaying Chinese folk music, hoping to show the audience the heritage, ductility and artistry of folk music. In form, it includes solo, concerto, ensemble, folk chamber music, etc.

The collision of Chinese and Western music has also become a highlight of this “Spring of Chinese Music”. On April 21, a concert by the Chinese Orchestra of the Chinese Music School of the China Conservatory of Music will be held, and the magnificent musical collision of chimes and pipe organs will be presented on the stage.

It is reported that the “Spring of Chinese Music” echoes the “Spring of Chinese Symphony” series of performances by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and is intended to form a rich music-themed art festival. “The ‘Spring of Chinese Symphony’ has been held for 14 years, and this year’s launch of ‘Spring of National Music’ can be said to be at the right time.” The relevant person in charge of the National Centre for the Performing Arts said that the festival can showcase national music by integrating traditional and modern interpretations. inheritance and development.

Promote more people to understand and get closer to national music

The closing concert of “Spring of Chinese Music”, which will be staged on April 28, will be a “Feast” of Pipa. The performers of the Central Chinese Orchestra will bring together with famous pipa players Wu Yuxia, Zhao Cong, Chen Yin, Zhang Qiang, Yang Jing, etc., to bring pipa classics and new works such as “Liu Qingniang”, “Blooming”, “Spring in Tianshan”, “Swan” and “Spring and Autumn”. . With the development of the times, Chinese folk music is also constantly integrating and developing. The “Spring of National Music” is showing the vigorous development and diverse pattern of national music. For example, the “Beauty of Yinzhen” staged in the specially planned concert at the opening left a deep impression on many audiences. This is a folk music work created by composer Luo Maishuo invited by Liu Sha, the permanent conductor of the Central Chinese Orchestra. The composer subtly divides the 12 pictures into 4 movements, and uses the flowing rhythm to string the painting scenes into a whole.

Liu Sha said: “China’s national orchestra has been developing for 100 years, and it has developed particularly rapidly in the past 20 years. Whether it is musical instrument production technology, the level of contemporary performers, the level of the orchestra, or the quality of the works, they have all improved rapidly. ‘The Spring of National Music’ provides us with a good platform to promote the development and popularization of Chinese folk music.”

“The times are developing, and now the national style and national trend has become a trend. This ‘Spring of National Music’ also reflects people’s desire for the excellent traditional Chinese culture.” Zhao Cong said, “I hope to promote more people to understand and get closer to national music. .”
