(São Paulo = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Jae-soon = In Brazil, the number of confirmed cases of monkey pox continues to increase in the southeastern and southern regions.

Brazil’s Ministry of Health said in a report released on the 22nd (local time) that 11 people had tested positive for monkey pox as of the previous day.

The Ministry of Health said most of the confirmed cases had recently traveled to Europe and local health authorities are monitoring them in self-isolation.

The confirmed cases occurred intensively in the southeastern regions such as São Paulo (7 cases) and Rio de Janeiro (2 cases), and two confirmed cases were also found in the southern Rio Grande provinces.

10 people classified as suspected cases are being tested.

Since the 17th, the Ministry of Health has been operating a response center that leads prompt measures, such as isolating monkeypox patients and tracing infection routes and close contacts.
