However, the increase in the number of employed persons decreased compared to the previous month. Jeong Dong-myeong, director of social statistics at Statistics Korea, explained, “As the number of daily confirmed cases surged due to the implementation of a gradual recovery of daily life and easing of quarantine rules, the decrease in the number of employed people, mainly in restaurants and pubs, was significant.”

The number of daily workers (-175,000) and the self-employed with employees (-4,000) also decreased.

The number of daily workers has been on the decline for the seventh month since May. The decrease in November was the largest since January (-232,000 people).

By age group, the number of employed increased among those in their 60s (331,000 people), those in their 20s (156,000 people), and those in their 50s (149,000 people), but those in their 30s (-69,000 people) and those in their 40s (- 27,000) decreased.

The number of employed people in their 30s has been decreasing for 21 consecutive months since March last year due to the impact of the population decline. The number of employed people in their 40s increased for five consecutive months from June to October this year, but then turned to a decline again in November.

Those employed over 36 hours increased by 497,000, and those employed less than 36 hours increased by 178,000. The average working hours per week decreased by 0.1 hours to 39.3 hours.
