(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Dongchan Kim = The total number of golfers per golf course in Korea is projected to decrease by 10.7% from 73,000 last year to 65,200 in 2026.

According to the ‘Leisure White Paper 2022’ recently published by the Korea Leisure Industry Research Institute (Chairman Seo Cheon-beom), the number of golfable population per golf course will decrease the most to 22.1% by 2026 at golf courses in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, and Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungnam will also With a decrease of 20.9%, the reservation difficulty for golf courses in this region is expected to be alleviated compared to now.

The golfable population was calculated based on the future population projections of the National Statistical Office for the population aged 15 to 74, and the golfable population per golf course was calculated by dividing the golfable population by the number of golf courses equivalent to 18 holes.

Golf courses in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do are expected to reduce reservation difficulties as the number of golfers available per golf course will significantly decrease by 2026, but in the metropolitan area, the number is expected to decrease by 3.8% from 108,300 last year to 104,200 in 2026. It is expected that the reservation difficulty for golf courses in the metropolitan area will not change much from now.

The reason why the number of people who can play golf per golf course in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do is greatly reduced is because the supply of golf courses increases significantly.

The number of golf courses from 63 at the end of 2021 (equivalent to 18 holes) is expected to increase to 78.5 by 2026.

In Jeju Island, the supply of new golf courses will be stopped due to the continued oversupply of golf courses, but as the population increases, the number of golfers per golf course is expected to increase only from 13,200 last year to 14,300 in 2026. .

Last year, the metropolitan area had the largest number of golfers with 108,300 people per golf course, followed by Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam with 100,000.
