The number of registered vehicles in the second quarter was 25.21 million… More eco-friendly cars and fewer diesel cars – Policy News | news

In the second quarter of this year, while the number of registered cars in Korea increased slightly, eco-friendly cars increased and diesel cars decreased.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that the cumulative number of registered vehicles in the second quarter of 2022 was 25,215,000, up 0.6% (145,000) from the previous quarter.

This equates to one car per 2.05 people.

Eco-friendly vehicles such as electric, hydrogen and hybrid vehicles increased by 8.5% (116,000 units) from the previous quarter. Eco-friendly vehicles accounted for 5.4% of the total number of vehicles, with a total of 1364,000 units.

Electric vehicles increased by 13.5% (4,380 units) to 298,000 units, hydrogen vehicles increased by 14.2% (3436 units) to 24,000 units, and hybrid vehicles increased 7.0% (72,782 units) to 1,042,000 units.

Gasoline vehicles were 11,927,000 units, an increase of 0.7% (87,000 units) from the previous quarter.

Diesel cars decreased 0.5% (49,935 units) from the previous quarter to 9.82 million units, and LPG cars decreased 0.5% (9815 units) to 1,925,000 units. Diesel cars have been on a downward trend since February this year, when oil prices soared.

By country of origin, the cumulative share of domestic cars is 87.8% (22,151,000 units) and imported cars are 12.2% (3064,000 units), indicating a trend of increasing market share.

Despite the delay in vehicle shipments, new vehicle registrations in the second quarter were 429,000 units, up 8.6% (37,000 units) from the previous quarter (393,000 units). Compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 11.3% (48,000 units).

By vehicle type, passenger cars increased 0.7% QoQ, cargo 0.2%, and specials 2.4% QoQ, respectively, but vans decreased 1.1% QoQ.

The number of newly registered electric vehicles increased 32.3% (13,000 units) from the previous quarter (28,000 units) to 41,000 units.

The share of newly registered domestic cars in the second quarter of electric vehicles was 78.0% (32,000 units), which decreased from 79.0% (22,000 units) in the previous quarter.

By region, 132,000 electric vehicles were registered in Gyeonggi-do, Seoul, and Jeju-do, accounting for 44.3% of the total.

By vehicle type, 77.9% of passenger cars (232,000 units), 20.7% of cargo (62,000 units), 1.3% of vans (4,000 units), and 0.1% of special vehicles (143 units) were registered.

By manufacturer, Hyundai (43.8%), Kia (25.6%), and Tesla (13.3%) showed cumulative registration share in the order.

As of June of this year, the top electric vehicle models registered were Ioniq 530,740 units (12.3%), Porter II 33,934 units (11.4%), Kona Electric 32,341 units (10.8%), Tesla Model 3 26,143 units (8.7%) in that order.

Looking at the newly registered electric vehicles by model in the second quarter, the Kia EV6 had the most with 8214 units. Ioniq 5 (7464 units), Porter II (5441 units), Bongo III (4039 units), and GV60 (2053 units) followed.

We will continue to provide customized statistics that the people want.”
