The Office of the President, Han Sang-hyeok and Yoo Si-chun were directly targeted… KCC inspection start ‘unusual’

Following the Audit and Inspection Board and the Office of State Affairs… Intense pressure on former government officials to resign

The Office of the President launched a direct inspection of the Korea Communications Commission. The presidential office’s inspection of the Korea Communications Commission is unusual. The Audit and Inspection Board has been investigating the Korea Communications Commission since June last year. Analysts say the presidential office is increasing pressure on the resignation of Korea Communications Commission Chairman Han Sang-hyeok (pictured left), who was appointed during the Moon Jae-in administration. It is also known that the process of appointing EBS chairman Yoo Si-chun (right) is subject to inspection.

A high-ranking official in the presidential office said on the 30th, “We cannot confirm the details of the inspection in detail” regarding the report that the presidential office has begun an inspection of the Korea Communications Commission.

When asked if there was a legal basis for the fact that the presidential office initiated an inspection of an outside agency rather than a person, this official said, “If the public officials appointed by the president neglect misconduct, neglect of duty, or breach of duty. dignity, it would be rather a ruin of debt, and he replied, “Public institutions can look at all those issues regarding the attitude of public officials or the appropriate way to behave as public officials.” It is interpreted as a de facto recognition of the president’s inspection of the Korea Communications Commission.

Channel A reported on the same day that the Office of the Secretary of State for Public Service Discipline in the Office of the Presidency is calling officials from the Korea Communications Commission in turn this week to investigate. The inspection investigation was said to focus on whether the process of appointing Chairman Yoo, who was appointed during the Moon Jae-in government in September 2018, was appropriate. Yu Si-min, a novelist, is the older sister of the former chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation. The term of Chairman Yoo, who was reappointed in 2021, runs until 2024.

Previously, the Government Policy Coordination Office also launched an inspection of the Korea Communications Commission earlier this month. It is known that they are investigating whether there were any problems with the process of appointing directors of public broadcasting companies such as KBS, EBS, and MBC during the Moon Jae-in administration.

The Liberty Korea Party (now People’s Power) seized Chairman Yoo in 2018, claiming that Chairman Yoo was appointed Chairman despite his history of being active in the “Grandpas Over Flowers Yoo Sedan” in the Moon Jae camp -in, which included four elders in politics and culture during the 2017 presidential election. He was accused of obstructing justice, but the prosecution rejected the charges.

Article 11 of the Korean Educational Broadcasting System (EBS) Act states that a person who serves as an adviser or adviser on broadcasting, telecommunications, law, management, etc. for the election of a candidate in the presidential election, or who is a party . member or who has lost their status as a party member within three years.
