On the occasion of the first Fool’s Day, Sega released a surprise game using Sonic’s corpse meme.
On April 1, Sega released ‘The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog’ on Steam. The game is a point-and-click visual novel genre that deals with the murder of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mirage Express.
Players put themselves in the shoes of Miles Tales Prower, who starts his first shift as a train attendant and must uncover the truth behind a murder case. In the process, you can meet familiar Sonic series characters like Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna, and Espio the Chameleon. In addition, mini-games with dot graphics that appear during the process stimulate the memories of fans of the series.
Sega released a short trailer with the release of the game, and the music in the middle of the video turns off and the death of Sonic, which is directed, makes viewers laugh. This is because the scene suggests the ‘Sonic death’ meme, which is sarcastic about the low sales volume of the Sonic series.
