Jung Eun-kyung, Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

People aged 55 to 59 who will receive the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) vaccine from August 9 to 15 are expected to receive the Pfizer vaccine regardless of region as in the first week.

The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced this at a regular briefing on the afternoon of the 2nd. However, if you are vaccinated at 591 consigned medical institutions that only handle Moderna vaccines, you will receive Moderna. The promotion team will individually notify the type of vaccine by text before the inoculation date.

AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine (over 50 years old) will be vaccinated only to those who are newly admitted to or admitted to nursing hospitals or facilities. Vaccinations that were started from July 27th are available until August 31st. In the case of nursing hospitals, the inoculation is done by itself, and in the case of vulnerable facilities, a facility contract doctor or a public health center visits and inoculates them.

Vaccinations for the elderly will continue. Among the 60-74 years old, those who are not vaccinated will receive the AZ vaccine in the same way as in the first half. This age group can make a reservation in advance through the website or the call center (1339, local government). Reservation period is from 8pm to 31st. From the 5th, they will receive the AZ vaccine at public health centers across the country that can be visited regardless of their place of residence. If you wish to receive an mRNA vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna, you can get vaccinated at a consignment medical institution through a reservation on the day of SNS or through a preliminary list. For those over 75 years of age, you can receive the Pfizer vaccine after making an individual reservation at the vaccination center without a separate period. Meanwhile, the promotion team announced that as of 00:00 on the 2nd, 19,472,376 people had completed the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is 37.9% of the nation’s population. Among them, 7,146,409 people, including those who received a single dose of the Janssen vaccine, accounted for 13.9% of the total population.

In addition, the promotion team said that 1.182 million doses of individually contracted AZ vaccine will be supplied on the 3rd, and about 28.6 million doses of vaccine will be supplied in August.

By vaccine, 835,000 doses of Covax AZ vaccine, 17.3 million doses of individually contracted AZ and Pfizer vaccines, and 10.46 million doses of Moderna vaccine. In the case of Moderna, the amount allocated in August was 8.5 million, and the supply in July, which was delayed, was 1.96 million.
