Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) could not provide a copy of the confidential statement given to Sapna Suresh Customs in the dollar smuggling case. The request for a copy of the affidavit was rejected by a special court considering financial crimes in the event that the investigation into the case is not completed.
The court on Thursday morning heard detailed arguments on the ED’s request for a confidential statement. The customs lawyer told the court that a third party could not provide a copy of the confession unless the investigation was completed. He also referred to the order of the Supreme Court in this regard. The court subsequently rejected the ED’s application.
Meanwhile, Swapna Suresh, P.C. Sarith was questioned by the police in the conspiracy case of George and George. The interrogation started at the Kochi Police Club on Thursday morning. After examining the statements, the police will decide whether to add Sarith to the case or not. Earlier, police had questioned Shah Kiran and his friend Ibrahim in the same case. Swapna Suresh also appeared before the ED on Thursday for questioning in the gold smuggling case.
