Renowned coach Guus Hiddink, who led the South Korean national football team to the semifinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, has recently undergone his second knee surgery in Korea. After a year of successful recovery, the 76-year-old coach is enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle.
Coach Hiddink entrusted his knee surgeries to Dr. Song Jun-seop, the director of Gangnam JS Hospital. In a recent video sent to Dr. Song, Coach Hiddink demonstrated his golf and tennis skills without any signs of discomfort or limitations.
With a powerful swing, Coach Hiddink confidently hit the golf ball off the tee, showcasing his impeccable technique. Similarly, he effortlessly played tennis, displaying impressive strokes both in the forehand and backhand.
In good spirits, Coach Hiddink jokingly said to Dr. Song, “I can now surpass you in tennis, but you’ll still have the advantage when it comes to golf. So go ahead and enjoy it!” He also expressed satisfaction with the stability of his movements, playfully asking Dr. Song if he could kick a football by October.
Notably, Coach Hiddink’s decision to undergo the surgeries was prompted by the pain he experienced in his knees. His first surgery took place in February 2001 while leading the South Korean team, followed by the second operation in October of last year.
In addition to the positive news regarding his health, Coach Hiddink shared another special announcement through Dr. Song. He revealed that he recently tied the knot with his longtime partner, Elizabeth Pinas, after making the decision during his battle with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
Having been by Coach Hiddink’s side since his tenure with the Korean national team, Elizabeth Pinas has remained steadfastly supportive throughout their relationship. The heartwarming video sent to Dr. Song was also captured by Ms. Pinas herself.
Dr. Song Jun-seop, who has performed the highest number of umbilical cord blood stem cell transplants (2450) in Korea, has gained international recognition due to the success stories associated with Coach Hiddink’s surgeries. Patients from various countries, including the Middle East, have sought his expertise.
In a recent development, Gangnam JS Hospital has signed a business agreement with Cheongdam Harrison Hospital, specializing in endoscopic spine surgery. This collaboration aims to provide more advanced and specialized treatment for degenerative conditions like back and knee pain.
As Coach Hiddink continues to enjoy his healthy and active lifestyle, he remains an inspiration to many, both on and off the field.

히딩크 감독이 두 차례 무릎 수술을 맡긴 송준섭 강남제이에스병원 원장에게 최근 보낸 영상을 보면 히딩크 감독은 골프는 물론 테니스를 하는 데에도 아무런 문제가 없어 보인다.
영상 속에서 히딩크 감독은 드라이버를 들고 티에 올린 골프공을 시원한 풀스윙으로 올려 친다.
히딩크 감독은 테니스 라켓도 문제 없이 휘둘렀다. 포핸드는 물론 백핸드에서도 라켓에 힘을 제대로 실은 스트로크를 보여줬다.
히딩크 감독은 “거의 실수 없이 공을 안정적으로 받아쳤어요. 송 원장 당신은 이제 테니스로는 나에게 대적할 수 없을 겁니다. 그러니 골프나 치세요”라고 농담을 섞어가며 무릎 상태를 전했다.
이어 “옆으로 내딛는 걸음까지도 매우 안정적이에요. 10월에는 축구공도 차도 될까요?”하고 송 원장에게 물었다.

Coach Hiddink suffered from symptoms of arthritis in his right knee, and underwent surgery while leading Korea in February 2001. After a successful umbilical cord blood stem cell transplant from Director Song in 2014, he returned to active football leadership vigorously.
As time passed, he felt pain in his left knee, so he visited Korea again in October last year and received the same operation. This time I was informed of that year’s progress.
Director Hiddink also introduced another news that would make Korean fans happy through Director Song.
It’s a 100-year contract with Elizabeth Pinas, who has been with her longtime boyfriend.
Director Song said in a phone call with Yonhap News on the 5th, “Director Hiddink married Mr. Pinas. I heard that he made a decision when he was suffering from a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in 2021.”
Mr. Pinas has been with Coach Hiddink since he was in charge of the Korean national team. At a time when Korean society was more conservative than it is now, many fans used to view him in an uncomfortable light.
