The White House warned of an increase in US military presence in response to North Korean military demonstrations.

In a briefing on the 12th (local time) on Air Force One (presidential plane) going from Egypt to Cambodia, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said, “President Biden told President Xi Jinping that the U.S. not just North Korea, South Korea and Japan, but the entire region. I will state my position that it is a threat to peace and stability.”

“And if North Korea continues on this path, it will lead to an increased US military presence in the region,” he said.

This is what he said when presenting the agenda of the US-China face-to-face summit between President Biden and President Xi to be held in Indonesia on the 14th.

It is not clear whether the ‘region’ that Sullivan referred to as the target for US military reinforcement is Korean or Japanese.

Currently, the United States has 28,500 US troops stationed in Korea and 55,000 US troops in Japan.

Councilor Sullivan also mentioned a separate Korea-US-Japan summit to be held in Indonesia.

He explained that the Korea-US-Japan summit will be held before the US-China summit.

It means that President Biden will listen to the pending issues that the leaders of Korea and Japan want to raise to President Xi and convey to President Xi.

He said, although it is not confirmed, that he expects to issue a joint statement after the Korea-US-Japan talks, adding, “We expect that the statement will indicate a higher level of trilateral cooperation between the three countries. ”
