The White House has warned that there could be 100 million confirmed cases of the new coronavirus this fall and winter.

On the 7th (local time), foreign media such as CNN reported that the White House had issued such an estimate, citing a US government official.

According to the report, the official said, “It is an estimate based on various external models,” saying, “It is expected that there will be 100 million confirmed cases this fall and winter.”

These figures assume that Omicron and its sub-variants are dominant through the second half of the year, the Washington Post reported.

The Biden administration has passed these estimates to Congress to push for additional budget approval for the COVID-19 response. He emphasized the need for additional finance to expand free secondary booster vaccinations.

It is known that the average number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States in the past week is around 70,000 a day, more than double the 29,000 as of the end of March.
