For the first time in history, the first batch of 10 girls got admission in Kazhakoottam Military School. Their admission is for the year 2020-21. These are the students who have qualified in the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination.

Earlier in the 2018-19 academic year, the admission of girl cadets in Sainik Schools was a successful experiment of the Sainik School Society in Mizoram. Subsequently, various states in the country took the initiative to admit girls to their military schools.

In his 75th Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the admission of girls cadets in all 33 military schools across the country from the new academic year. Each year, 10 percent of the total seats in military schools will be reserved for girls.
