Thieves with swords and axes in Athirampuzha; Suspicion of a Kuruva group

Kottayam: Police suspect that it was the Kuruva gang that tried to rob houses in Athirampuzha, Kottayam. The burglary attempt took place in six houses yesterday morning. A three-member armed group arrived for the robbery. The group, armed with swords and axes, wore only underwear. Police found out from the CCTV footage that the gang had gone to the Ettumanoor area after the robbery attempt.

The burglary took place yesterday morning at the houses of Neermalakunnel Mujeeb, Manakkapadam, 5th ward, Athirampuzha panchayath, George, Nalipha Manzil Yasir near Kalappurathattel temple, Iqbal in Paimattam, Jayakumar in Sripurath house and Yasmin in 7th ward near Thrikkel temple.

Yasir’s wife’s metal soles were stolen, believed to be of gold. The family woke up to the sound of burglars trying to break open the door of Yasmin’s house. As soon as the sound was heard, the group entered. Ward member Babinas Ajaz was informed by phone. Ettumanoor police conducted a search but could not find the thieves. Police said strict checks were continuing.
