This year, Union Cope sold 2.9 crore dirhams worth of local products

Dubai : Union Coop, the UAE’s largest consumer co – operative, has sold more than 2.9 crore dirhams worth of local, organic and hydroponic fresh vegetables and fruits since the beginning of this year.

Union COPE prioritizes the support and promotion of local agriculture to achieve sustainable development in agriculture. In addition, it ensures the stockpiling and food security of the country.

Yakub Al Balushi, Union Coop’s Fresh Category Trade Department Manager, said: This is in addition to the contributions made to ensure food security.

Union Coop manages 52 farms. Of these, 24 are organic and 12 are conventional. There are also 16 hydroponic farms. He added that Union Coop imports a wide variety of vegetables and fruits from a number of countries to ensure the availability of products to meet the needs of consumers and to provide goods at reasonable prices.

Union Cope supplies 100 tons of vegetables and fruits daily through imports or from local farms. Of this, 40 tonnes of fruits and 60 tonnes of vegetables per day. He pointed out that Union Cope has put forward a number of plans and moves to support local farms.
