“Those who received skates, please embroider”… The reason why the flag was hung in the Jeonbuk livestock cooperative

/ Jeollabuk-do Electoral Commission

“I hope that union members who have received money and valuables (such as skates) will turn themselves in and receive a discount or exemption from fines for negligence.”

It is a banner of ’embroidery recommendation’ hung in 9 places including the Jeonju Kimjewanju Livestock Cooperative branch and office in Hoseong-dong, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk. The Jeollabuk-do Election Commission sent a warning message when a report of ‘money election’ came in ahead of the 3rd simultaneous national election for the head of the union, which will be held on the 8th of next month.

The Jeonbuk National Election Commission announced on the 7th that it was asking the police to investigate after receiving a tip that a preliminary candidate had distributed frozen skates to union members in connection with the election of union bosses.

Those who provide money or valuables in connection with elections are liable to criminal punishment. Those who receive money or valuables are subject to a fine for negligence which varies from 10 to 50 times the amount received. However, if the person who received the money or valuables turns themselves in, the fine can be reduced.

An official from the National Electoral Commission said, “We found out about this in mid-January, around the time of the Lunar New Year, and we immediately asked the police to investigate.”
