Tic-deer virus NJ: Powassan kills man NJ

The Powassan virus is hitting close to the town of New Jerseyans.

The following virus took the rare deer who threw the life of Armand Desormeaux from Hampton, New Jersey, in May, according to reports, and another infected person is recovering in Sussex County. These two cases are currently under investigation by Sussex County Health Department.

In recent years, the reports of Powassan viruses, which are spread by deer ticks, have increased steadily.

Peanut's incubation period lasts from about a week to one month, and is a neuroinvasive disease that can cause enzyme (inflammation of the brain) and meningitis (inflammation of membranes surrounding the nervous system). Potential symptoms include fever, coordination loss, seizures, and more.

Armand's daughter Dianne Rude advised the public, "Spray your yard, Start your animals and check for ticks." To avoid ticks, try to stay out of high grassland areas, throw insect shirts and long slides, and shower shortly after being out.
