Sultan Bathery: The economic growth of Shaibin Ashraf, who brutally murdered a traditional healer, was fast approaching. During questioning, Shaibin himself revealed that he had assets worth over Rs 300 crore. Shaibin, who used to drive an autorickshaw in Bathery and work as a lorry cleaner and petty thug, quickly became a millionaire and an expatriate businessman. So Shaib’s financial source is also under investigation.
Shayb’s sudden economic growth and trade are shrouded in mystery. The growth of Shaib, who sailed to the Gulf following the economic crisis in the country, was astonishing. Shaib, who went to the Gulf as a regular worker a decade ago, now has assets worth crores.
Livelihood as an auto driver and cleaner
Shaibin is building a palace-like palace on Puthenkunnu near Sultan Bathery. Shaibin Ashraf’s journey to Kodipathi starts from his hut on Maidanikunnu near Wayanad Bathery. He made a living as a cleaner in a lorry in Bathery and later as an autorickshaw driver. Meanwhile, his mother went to the Gulf in search of work. It was through those relationships that Shaib began his life in exile. Subsequent growth was rapid. The family moved from a hut in Maidanikunnu to large rented houses in Manikuni and Manthundikunnu in Bathery.
20,000 sq ft house
The construction of a luxury residence on Ooty Road in Puthenkunnu, Bathery started seven years ago with the influx of money from the Gulf. The 20,000-square-foot home has not been completed in ten years. The house is expected to cost over Rs 20 crore. Construction on the building had stalled in the meantime but had recently resumed. Shaibin told locals and friends that there were several enterprises in the Gulf, including the oil trade.
The youth were taken to the Gulf and made bodyguards
Shaibin had formed a group of local youths to raise money. Some of these were taken by Shaibin to the Gulf. Shaibin, who occasionally returns from the Gulf, travels in luxury vehicles, accompanied by these young men as bodyguards in escort vehicles. During 2014-15, Shaibin took many young people from the Bathery region to the Gulf for work. Most of them were from Kaipancherry and Rahmat Nagar. Many of these returned home by 2018-19.
Shaibin also started quoting links with the gang of Seesing Jose, who is on the Bathery police gang list. Many businesses were handed over to those in the group. At the same time, many of the gangs began to turn against Shaib. Shaybin’s astute man was able to subdue opposing voices with ease. Meanwhile, Shaib started suffering from kidney disease. The case was filed in Abu Dhabi while he was active in business after undergoing kidney transplant surgery. He spent two years in prison there. The house work in Wayanad stopped after he was caught in the case. Shaibin, who later returned to Kerala from jail, bought a house worth Rs 2 crore in Nilambur seven years ago and started living there. He was eventually caught after the gang members revealed all the crimes committed against Shaib during this period.
Star One Group worked as a quotation team
According to intelligence sources, Shaib’s Star One Group, a business network, was operating as a citation team. There have been incidents in the past where Shaib’s goons kidnap and torture opponents and enemies.
The victims lodged a complaint with the police and made a disclosure to the media, but to no avail. It was all wiped out with influence and money. Shaib has close ties to politicians and bureaucrats as he pays bribes to anyone who asks. All this is under the surveillance of the intelligence unit. Shaibin bought a house and moved to Nilambur Mukkatta a few years back.
Indications are that Shaib was advised by a former police officer
Indications are that Shaibin Ashraf had received advice from a former police officer in committing crimes. It is because of this connection that Shaib has been able to stem the tide of crime. There are indications that this officer from Wayanad entered Nilambur after breaking into Shaib’s house.
Born into a poor family, Shaib’s father took him from Nilambur to Wayanad when he was young. When Shaibin returned to work abroad in 2005, his financial situation did not improve.
Six years later, the situation changed. He returned in 2013 and bought a house in Nilambur Mukkatta. Shaibin did not go for great friendships with the natives. There were only a few friends in Nilambur.
According to sources, Shaib has been in a major financial crisis since his foreign business collapsed recently. About half of the land in Nilambur was sold. He had been in hiding in Nilambur for a long time in connection with the kidnapping and beating of a man in Wayanad following a kabaddi dispute.
Two accused entered Tamil Nadu
Meanwhile, there are indications that two of the five accused in the case have entered Tamil Nadu. The probe team said it had received clear information about all of them and had sent a special team to Tamil Nadu. Those who helped kidnap Shaba Sharif from Mysore are yet to be found.
