Tokyo stock market: Nikkei opens 2.21 points | RYT9

The Nikkei Index, the Tokyo stock market opened higher today. In line with the direction of the Dow Jones index, US stocks closed in positive territory on Friday. This was driven by expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will slow interest rate increases after data suggested that inflation in the United States has weakened.

The Nikkei Index opened at 27,384.77 points, up 2.21 points, or +0.008%, and about 15 minutes after the market opened, the Nikkei Index rose 95.85 points, or +0.35%, to 27,478.41 points.

The US Commerce Department said on Friday that the main Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) price index, which includes food and energy, rose 5.0 percent in December year over year. and slowed by 5.5% in November.

The PCE index is an inflation gauge that can detect changes in consumer behaviour. and covers a wider range of prices for goods and services than Consumer Price Index (CPI) data.
