The cast, including Tom Cruise (60) of the sequel movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which comes out after 32 years, appeared at the outdoor plaza of Lotte World Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul on the 19th to meet the media and fans. Cruise, who visited Korea for the tenth time ahead of the film’s domestic release on the 22nd, expressed his gratitude by shaking hands with fans gathered at the event.
Cruise, which has a strong domestic fan base, such as being appointed as an honorary citizen of Busan in 2013, took a ‘selfie’ with the fans after a two-hour media interview and showed a ‘hand heart’. He said, “I am already visiting Korea for the tenth time. It’s always nice to come to Korea,” he said. I am sure that the audience who saw the movie will be able to feel the feeling of being on a real fighter plane,” he emphasized. He promised, “I will visit Korea again next summer with the ‘Mission Impossible’ series.” The event was also attended by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, actors Miles Teller and Glenn Powell.
The new film is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. It tells the story of legendary fighter pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise), who was a Navy captain in the first part, is promoted to colonel and returns to the U.S. Naval Training Center as an instructor. According to the Korea Film Council on the 19th, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ took the top spot in the overall reservation rate on that day.
