[시사포커스 / 이근우 기자] A number of clubs have shown an interest in Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Gerbi.

The British media ‘Daily Mail’ said on the 22nd (Korea time), “Brighton faced competition to take Jerbi, with Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan showing interest. South Jerbi has a contract termination clause of 11.5 million pounds (about 18.15781 billion won),” he said.

In the English Premier League in the 2022-2023 season, Brighton is 7th in the league with 10 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses with 35 points. After Graham Porter, who left while holding the Chelsea baton, was replaced by manager De Jerby, Brighton led steadily and cruised through the league.

In the current atmosphere at Tottenham, it seems unlikely that he will renew his contract with coach Antonio Conte. Conte’s contract with Tottenham has an option for a one-year extension, but the option is unlikely to be triggered if Conte doesn’t want to.

However, the popularity of the director De Jerbi is quite high compared to his recognition. Director De Gerbi successfully led Sassuolo Calcio, and in Italian Serie A, along with Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, AS Roma is also the command tower that Jose Mourinho considers as his successor if he leaves.

However, in the recruitment competition, Tottenham, who belong to the EPL along with Brighton, may have a better advantage. De Gerbi has recently stated in an interview that he has no plans to return to Italian football. Also, the key is whether Brighton, who sent manager Porter to Chelsea in September last year, will let manager De Jerby leave.

On the other hand, coach De Jerbi has a one-touch pass and quick tactics, a strength other EPL teams can envy.
