All you have to do is pay half of the traffic fine arrears

Under this scheme, traffic fines can be paid with 50% discount. The exemption is for three months from December 18. Traffic fines have to be paid through Methrash 2. As a prelude to toughening measures against traffic violations from next year, those who currently have to pay traffic fines will be given the opportunity to pay only half the amount and pay the arrears. Brigadier General Mohammad Abdullah Al Shahwani, Director General of the Directorate General of Traffic, said everyone should take advantage of this opportunity.

Decision to tighten traffic rules

Under the new traffic law, which will take effect next year, those who do not pay the fines for violations will only be given two months to pay their dues. The case of those who do not pay the fine within two months will be handed over to the public prosecution. Al-Shahwani made the remarks at a news conference at the Traffic Department headquarters. He added that the project was part of Qatar’s National Day celebrations to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Traffic fines have not increased

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Traffic has clarified that the information spread on social media that a new increase in traffic fines has been introduced in the country is incorrect. The fine for sitting children under the age of 11 in the front seat has been increased from 500 to 2,000 riyals and the fine for driving while talking on a mobile phone or not wearing a seat belt has been increased from 800 to 2,000 riyals. The penalty for driving in violation of a red signal has been increased from 5,000 riyals to 10,000 riyals, three months’ imprisonment, and the fine for one-way driving has been increased from 1,000 riyals to 5,000 riyals. However, officials said such rumors should not be believed and relied on the traffic department’s website or social media handles for authentic information.
