The complete double track will become a reality only after the completion of the work on the line through the first platform at Kottayam station. The train will now reach Muttambalam Level Crossing and Kottayam station by virtually one track. With the completion of the work on the line through the first platform, both tracks will be operational.

Work is underway to raise the first line at Nagampadam. Also connect the 3 lines coming from the side of the 1A and 1B platforms. It is proposed to complete these works before June 15. Until then the trains will not reach the first platform. The service will use 2 to 5 platforms. Lines have been cut from Kottayam station to the tunnel. Railways say this will no longer be compatible. As a result, the train no longer reaches the tunnel. There is also a proposal to close the tunnel.
