TSMC started producing ‘3nm chips’ after being overtaken by ‘Samsung’ before half a year.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced the start of mass production of 3nm chips. This is another important step by TSMC which wants to maintain its status as the world’s largest advanced chip maker.

TSMC has the world’s largest silicon wafer manufacturing facility. and producing high-performance processor-level chips used in almost every electronic device From smartphones, cars, to missiles. It is also the main chip supplier to Apple.

For the 3 nm chipset, it will provide higher processing power. but uses less energy This allows the battery to work more efficiently.

“Our 3nm chips will be widely used in the most advanced technology products of the future. Whether it is a supercomputer cloud server high speed internet Including many types of portable devices. The president of TSMC, Mark Liu, said at a press conference today (December 29) the launch of a 3nm chip production line at a factory in southwestern Taiwan, Tainan city, adding that TSMC still has plans. Produces chips as small as 2nm in factories in Hsinchu and Taichung.

The Samsung Electronics TSMC, a competitor from South Korea, has started mass production of 3nm chips since last month. last June

Taiwan plays a very important role in the global chip industry, with TSMC producing sub-10nm chips supplying almost 50% of market demand.

However, the concentration of such an important high-tech industry in Taiwan is beginning to create geopolitical turmoil. Especially when “China” tries to claim sovereignty over the island. and does not deny the possibility of using military force to invade Taiwan.

Western powers, aware of these issues, have been lobbying TSMC to set up a chip factory in their own country. which the company agrees to follow

TSMC is investing up to $40 billion to build a large chip factory in the US state of Arizona, which will be used to produce 4nm and 3nm chips, boosting Washington’s policy to build Semiconductor manufacturing centers that supply sufficient domestic demand

TSMC also plans to build foundries in Japan and is considering the possibility of opening a chip factory in Germany.
