The leaders of the United States and China, who had only exchanged views by phone this year, decided to hold a summit meeting via video this morning.

The White House is in a position to say what the President himself will say.

A senior U.S. official said he would discuss unfair economic practices and coercive and provocative acts against Taiwan.

The White House reaffirmed its position that this meeting will not produce concrete results, but it is a place to responsibly manage the fierce competition between the United States and China so as not to escalate into a conflict.

A senior U.S. official added that while the supply chain crisis or tariffs on China, which are currently on the agenda, are not on the agenda of the summit, but global issues such as climate change and health are the subject of discussion.

China is also in a position that it will not avoid confrontation in order to protect its core national interests, so it is noteworthy what kind of opportunity this US-China video summit will have in establishing relations between the two countries.
