A man broke through the window of a fifth floor and died on Monday afternoon at UF Health Jacksonville in Springfield, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A UF Health spokesman said the hospital was co-operating with the police and had no comment. The UF Health website indicates that there are fifth floor centers in cardiovascular, gastroenterology and nephrology as well as psychiatric and mental health facilities.
A security guard then informed a non-duty officer immediately before 7 n.m. that a person "jumped out of the window" at the hospital pavilion at 555 W. Eighth Street, according to police report. The official discovered the unknown victim in the parking lot to the east of the building. A broken window on the fifth floor was seen above.
The man was a patient from Thursday, the report said, and one employee said he was "calm throughout the day." But as employees change the night work to his room to discuss treatment, they saw him doing something, although the report reorganizes that part of the story that came before his death.
