(TEHRAN = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Seung-min = Turkish authorities said that Ukraine had detained a Russian cargo ship carrying its own grain.

According to Reuters on the 3rd (local time), Ukrainian ambassador Vasil Bodnar Zhuturkiye appeared on national television on the same day and said that Turkish customs had detained the Russian flag-bearing cargo ship ‘Zivek Jolly’ in Karasu port.

“The fate of the Russian cargo ship will be decided after a meeting of the investigation team on Monday,” Bodnar said.

Reuters reported on the same day that it confirmed that the ‘Zebek Jolie’ was moored about 1 km from the entrance to the Karasu port.

A Ukrainian foreign ministry official said the vessel was loaded with 4,500 tons of Ukrainian grain.

Earlier, on the 30th of last month, the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice of Turkiye, requesting that the vessel be detained.

Since the outbreak of the war in February, Ukraine has claimed that its crops have been looted by Russian troops. Russia has denied this.
