Ukraine threatens to leave France 2024 Olympics if Russian and Belarusian athletes attend | RYT9

Ukrainian Sports Minister Vadim Guttset said on his official Facebook page that “If no one listens to our voices There is a possibility that we will boycott. and not take part in the Olympics.”

On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) outlined plans for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the Paris Olympics. and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano and Cortina. Italy must, under strict conditions, play only as a neutral nation.

The IOC had previously asked the sports federation to ban athletes from Russia and Belarus. After Russia invaded Ukraine last year, the IOC said on Wednesday that “no athlete should be banned from competing just because of their passports”.

Mr Guttset, who is also president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, said: “As long as there is a war in Ukraine Russian and Belarusian athletes should not take part in international sporting events.

He added, Sports authorities of Ukraine need to increase communication with international federations for the ban to take effect. and further possible steps are being taken to further implement the sanctions.
