Zelenskyy: One dead in Russian rocket attack on clinic in Dnipro

12:07 p.m.: One person has been killed in a Russian rocket attack on a clinic in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 15 other people were injured, the President said in the online service Telegram. Zelenskyj published a video showing badly damaged buildings with clouds of black smoke.

Rescue workers are on site to rescue victims and clear debris, Zelenskyj said. With the attack on a medical facility, Russian terrorists “reconfirmed their status as fighters against everything human and honest”. Local media released footage of rescue workers helping injured people to flee the clinic through corridors full of rubble.

Ukraine and Russia report attacks and explosions

11:57 am: Ukraine and Russia have reported new attacks by opposing sides and several explosions. Russia has fired 17 rockets of different types and 31 so-called kamikaze drones of the Iranian type Shahed-136/131 at Ukraine, the air force in Kiev said. 10 cruise missiles and 23 Shahed drones and 2 reconnaissance drones were shot down, it said. The attacks, which again hit the capital Kiev, lasted until five in the morning. There was an air alert throughout the country at night. In Russia, too, there were reports of attacks by Ukrainians.

The Ukrainian authorities said there were impacts in Ukraine in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In Dnipro, the military administration reported explosions. A hospital was hit. “As of now, one person has died and 15 have been injured,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel. The media spread images showing serious damage to the hospital.

In addition, according to the authorities, two companies, a gas station and a house were damaged. A gas station employee was injured. Russia had massively attacked with missiles and drones, it said.

In Kiev, too, the anti-aircraft defense was active again because of rocket fire. The head of the Kiev military administration, Serhiy Popko, said that fragments of a missile launched had damaged the roof of a shopping and entertainment center. A house was hit elsewhere. Cars in a parking lot were also damaged. There are no injuries, said Popko.

Scholz wants to speak to Putin again “in due course”.

6.02 a.m.: Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has warned Russia not to rely on freezing the war against Ukraine along the territory it has conquered so far. “Russia must understand that it cannot be about making a kind of cold peace – for example by turning the existing front line into the new “border” between Russia and Ukraine. That would only legitimize Putin’s robbery,” he told the “Kölner City Gazette” (Friday). “It’s more about a fair peace, and the prerequisite for this is the withdrawal of Russian troops.”

The Chancellor left open the question of whether this also applies to the Crimean Peninsula, which has been occupied by Russia since 2014. When asked whether his condition also applied to Crimea, he merely reiterated his statement: “The withdrawal of troops. It’s not up to us to formulate what agreements Ukraine wants to make on its behalf.” Scholz used the more vague phrase “withdrawal of troops” rather than “withdrawal of troops,” which could mean: all troops.
