Ukrainian Army Launches Long-Range Attack on Russian Air Defense Systems in Crimea

KYIV, 14th March (Reuters) – The Ukrainian army confirmed on Sunday that it had conducted a strategic assault on Russian air defense systems near the town of Eupatorya in western Crimea. The attack, which took place during the night, aimed to cripple Russian defenses in the region.

The Ukrainian offensive comes in response to escalating tensions between the two countries, with Russia accusing Ukraine of aggressive acts in Crimea, and Ukraine claiming that it is merely defending its territories.

According to Ukrainian intelligence sources who spoke to Reuters, the coordinated operation involved the navy and other military branches and successfully neutralized Russia’s Triumv air defense system. The assault began with a series of drone strikes targeting the system’s radar and antenna, providing a window of opportunity for the Ukrainian navy to launch two Neptune cruise missiles at the system’s launch facility.

Military experts confirm that the Neptune anti-ship missile was specially modified to engage ground targets, showcasing the Ukrainian military’s growing capabilities.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that its air defense systems had intercepted and downed 11 drones over Crimea overnight. Fortunately, no damage was reported from this incident.

It is important to note that neither the Ukrainian army’s long-range attack nor Russia’s downing of the drones can be independently verified at this time, casting some doubt on the conflicting claims.

The previous day, the Ukrainian military announced via Telegram that it had successfully carried out an assault on Russian naval assets and port infrastructure in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol during the early hours of the morning.

As tensions continue to rise, both Ukraine and Russia are intensifying their military operations, raising concerns about the potential escalation of the conflict.
