Umran, don’t try to break my record, Akhtar advises

In the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Indian pacer Umran Malik was praised for his thunderous 155km/ha delivery that dismissed Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka. The right-arm pacer earlier broke Jasprit Bumrah’s record for the fastest ball by an Indian bowler.

In Gavaskar’s Border series against Australia, Bumrah bowled at a speed of 153.2 kmph at the Adelaide Oval. Umran took two wickets against Sri Lanka and finished the match with a brilliant figure of 2/27 in 4 overs. It is said that if anyone can break Shoaib Akhtar’s record of 161 kilometers per hour delivery against England in the 2003 World Cup, it will be Umran Malik.

In response to a question, Umran said that his only focus is to perform well for the country. “At the moment, I’m only thinking about doing good for the country. If I do well, if I’m lucky, I’ll break it (Akhtar’s record) but I’m not thinking about it,” Umran said in an interview with News24 ahead of the first T20I.

Now reacting to Umran’s comment, Rawalpindi Express commented saying that he would be happy if Umran breaks his record but hopes that the J&K speedster does not break any bones in his pursuit.
