[新頭殼newtalk] Foxconn Technology Group plans to expand its iPhone factory in India amid disruptions to production in China, Reuters reported.The report was quotedIndian government officials familiar with the matter said,Apple supplier FoxconnOver the next two years, it will add 53,000 workers to its plant in southern India, bringing the workforce to 70,000.

According to a Reuters report, Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant has become the center of attention in recent weeks, the Zhengzhou factory is the world’s largest iPhone production base. However, the case has directly affected iPhone production, leading Apple to review the iPhone 14 series this week The outlook for different types of goods also affects the year-end holiday season sales outlook.

The report pointed to the fact that Foxconn opened an Indian factory in 2019 and has been ramping up production, starting production of the iPhone 14 this year. Although Foxconn’s intention to expand its factory in India is not the first to hear, the scale and timetable of the proposed expansion have not been announced before.

A government source in India said Foxconn has shared plans to expand hiring to Tamil Nadu state amid disruptions to its operations in China. The source added that although the factory makes products for other global technology companies as well as iPhones, the expansion is mainly to meet the growing demand for iPhones.

On October 27, India’s national investment promotion agency also tweeted that senior government officials had traveled to Taiwan to meet Honorary Chairman Hai Liu Yangwei, “to discuss Foxconn’s new business and investment plans in detail,” and to provide government support .

Currently, iPhones are assembled in India by at least three global suppliers: Foxconn in Tamil Nadu, Pegatron, and Wistron in nearby Karnataka.

JPMorgan analysts estimated in September that Apple could produce two-quarters of all iPhones in India by 2025, and 25% of all Apple products including Macs, iPads, Apple Watch and AirPods by 2025 will be produced outside the mainland, compared to 5% at present.
