London: Manchester United won a double in the English Premier League. Manchester United won the Player and Coach of the Month award for September.
United’s new manager, Erik ten Haag, was named manager of the year and striker Marcus Rashford was named player of the year. They both won the award by voting.
ten Haag received the award based on the huge change he brought about in the team as soon as he took over as coach. Despite losing the first two games, Deg Haag led the team to victory in the next four games. The Red Devils have beaten Liverpool, unbeaten Arsenal and Leicester City.
After three years the award for the best coach arrives at Manchester United. The last Manchester United coach to win the award was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2019. Ten Haag was named manager of the year ahead of Tottenham’s Antonio Conte and Bournemouth’s Gary O’Neill. ten Haag joined United as a coach this season from Ajax. ten Haag has brought in new players and is currently leading the team in a good way.
Rashford, who won the award for the best player, shows a great performance under Deg Haag. Rashford scored two goals and provided two assists in two games last month. The goals against Arsenal add to the star’s award-winning run. Rashford scored a brace against Arsenal in a 3-1 win. This is the first time since January 2019 that Rashford has won the best player award.
There were six people competing for the best actor award. In addition to Rashford, Philip Billing from Bournemouth, Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City, Hoiberg from Tottenham, Alex Iwobi from Everton and Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa were in the quarter-finals.
This is the first time since 2019 that United have won the award for the best player and manager together. In 2019, Rashford and Solskjaer achieved this feat. United’s opponent in the next game are defending champions Manchester City. The match will be played on October 2 at 6:30 PM IST.
