Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Kalyan Singh will be laid to rest tomorrow. Kalyan Singh was at the helm of the BJP’s growth in the whole of northern India. He was twice the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He later served as the Governor of Rajasthan for some time.
He had been undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Medical College in Lucknow since July 4 and passed away yesterday. He was 89 years old. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that Kalyan Singh was instrumental in the construction of the Ram temple.

His separation is a great loss to the BJP. Yogi Adityanath said Monday would be a public holiday in the state as a sign of grief. Kalyan Singh’s body will be taken to Aligarh this evening. After that, the funeral will be held tomorrow.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences on the death of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. The Prime Minister said that Kalyan Singh was a man who worked for the upliftment of millions of downtrodden and exploited people in the country. The Prime Minister recalled that he stood for the welfare of farmers, youth and women.

Born in Aligarh, he entered the public sphere during his school days. He came to the public eye through the activities of the RSS. Even when he was the stronghold of the UP Congress, Kalyan Singh was able to reach the Assembly nine times. Kalyan Singh was also instrumental in bringing the BJP government to UP for the first time in 1991.
