A meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to take place in Beijing, China next month, as confirmed by Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Russian National Security Council, on the 19th (local time).
General Secretary Patrushev met with Wang Yi, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Moscow, Russia, on this day and expressed his anticipation for concrete bilateral discussions between President Putin and President Xi, referencing the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in October.
If President Putin and President Xi hold their summit in China next month, it will mark the first meeting between the two countries in approximately seven months since President Xi’s state visit to Russia in March.
President Putin seems to have chosen China as his first foreign visit since an arrest warrant was issued against him by the International Criminal Court in March.
Director Wang Yi, who arrived in Russia the day before, is expected to attend the 18th China-Russia Strategic and Security Consultation, which will be held until the 21st, and is likely to coordinate the summit between President Putin and President Xi during this period.
Patrushev emphasized Russia’s support for China’s stance on issues concerning Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Tibet, which the West uses to undermine China’s trust.
He also highlighted the growing importance of the relationship between Russia and China, as the West attempts to contain them.
