‘Urban transport will be coordinated with Metrorail’s MRT’

Dhaka South City Corporation (DASIC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas said that Dhaka City Transport’s new two routes (numbers 24 and 25) will be launched in coordination with Metrorail’s MRT.

He gave this information after the 26th meeting of the Bus-Route Rationalization Committee at Buriganga Hall, Nagar Bhavan, the head office of Dhaka South City Corporation (DADSIC) on Tuesday (February 7) at noon.

Tapas said, MRT has already started. So we have decided to launch two new routes in coordination with the MRT. In that context, we discussed in detail about the two new itineraries in the meeting.

In response to this question, he said, we have noticed some deviations. In particular, we are noticing a trend of boarding the bus without buying a ticket. It will not be tolerated in any way in Dhaka city transport. Everyone has to buy a ticket through the ticket counter and board the bus. We will give strict instructions to those who are operating Route 22; They should not become dependent on the driver. As per our rule, the passengers board the bus after buying the ticket from the passenger cantonment. Accordingly the city transport will serve the passengers. We have strictly instructed that from today’s meeting.

Stating that strict measures will be taken to maintain the quality of passenger service and ensure order in the city transport, Dasik Mayor said, “We have discussed this matter.” BRTC has assured us that the specific bus for Dhaka city transport will run only on city transport route. These buses cannot be used elsewhere. And we will issue a show cause notice to Trans Silva. That’s why I will give them 15 days. If they show inability or failure to provide this service as per the prescribed policy, then the contract will be cancelled. If BRTC agrees then it will be managed by them as an alternative. Or we will manage this service with new entrepreneurs.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said, Metrorail passengers can travel on all city transport buses with the Rapid Pass; Such a decision was made in today’s meeting. City dwellers can travel by metro rail and Dhaka city transport in one card.

Atiqul Islam also said that we have decided to launch route number 24 and 25 to provide services to the passengers of Metrorail. These two new routes will be introduced keeping in mind that they can get off the bus and board the metro rail and use the bus after getting off the metro rail. Initially 50 buses will run on these two routes.

Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Sabiha Parveen, Chairman of BRTA Noor Mohammad Majumdar, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation. Tajul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation.
