US imposes new sanctions on Burma’s junta targeting jet fuel companies

Reuters – The United States announces additional sanctions against Myanmar. Its aim is to supply jet fuel to the Burmese Army against airstrikes in civilian populated areas. The US Treasury Department said

The ministry said in a statement that it had imposed sanctions on two individuals and six entities involved in Myanmar army operations. Washington has been accused of allowing the atrocities to continue. This includes importing, storing and selling jet fuel to the military.

Since the military government seized power in February 2021 Burma is in chaos. He created a resistance movement that fought the army on many fronts and led to a bloody suppression of the opposition.

The Ministry of Finance said the army has continued to commit atrocities and violence against the Burmese people since the coup. “Burma’s military regime continues to inflict pain and suffering on its own people,” Brian Nelson, under secretary for terrorism financing and financial intelligence, said in a statement.

“The United States remains true to its commitment to the people of Burma. and will continue to denounce the use of military equipment that commits these atrocities,” the statement said.

Myanmar’s embassy in Washington did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
