NEW YORK – The United States labor market appears to be in good shape as the number of new jobless claims remains at a low level.
The US Department of Labor revealed on September 28th that there were 204,000 new unemployment claims filed during the week of September 17th to 23rd, increasing by 2,000 compared to the previous week.
Although the number slightly rose from the previous week, it fell below the forecast of 214,000 made by experts at the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
This decrease in new jobless claims suggests that unemployment rates are not increasing amidst continued economic growth in the US.
The number of new jobless claims has seen a steady rise this year due to cutbacks in hiring from the financial and technology sectors. However, since July, it has been on a downward trend.
