(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Ui-jin = World No. 1 men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic (35, Serbia) was re-detained in Australia on the 15th (local time), AFP news agency reported.

According to court documents obtained by AFP, Djokovic is currently in a detention facility in Melbourne.

The move came as the Australian government canceled his entry visa the day before, following the 6th, because he had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

He will be detained at the facility until the outcome of his visa revocation suit in Australian courts.

The Australian government said Djokovic’s case could provoke sentiment against the COVID-19 vaccine.

Djokovic is staying in Melbourne for the Australian Open, which starts on the 17th, but on the 14th, Australian immigration minister Alex Hawk ex officio canceled his Australian visa.

Djokovic, who arrived in Australia on the 5th to participate in this competition, had his visa invalidated for the second time after the 6th.

The Australian court is scheduled to hold a final hearing until the 16th, the day before the opening of the tournament.
