Video: Woman jumps from 6th floor of building to try to escape fire in SP

The victim had a cardiac arrest and was taken to the Hospital das Clínicas.

A fire broke out in a residential building this Saturday morning, the 25th, in Itaim Bibi, in the south zone of São Paulo. According to the Fire Department, a victim jumped from the 6th floor of the building in an attempt to escape the fire. In addition to her, another person was rescued after inhaling smoke.

Firefighters were called shortly after 10:30 am to respond to the incident. The fire occurred in a building on Rua do Rocio, a few blocks from Vila Olímpia Station. According to the corporation, 13 teams were moved to the location.

The flames would have been concentrated on the 6th floor of the building, but the smoke spread to other apartments. Videos released by neighbors on social media show the damage mainly on the balconies and on the facade of the building.

In an attempt to escape the flames, a woman jumped from the 6th floor, according to the Fire Department. She had a cardiorespiratory arrest and was taken to the Hospital das Clínicas, in the west zone of São Paulo.

Another victim was rescued due to smoke inhalation and taken to A Beneficência Portuguesa de São Paulo, in the center of the city. The fire was extinguished around 2:30 pm, according to firefighters. The causes of the fire are being investigated.
