Spain’s Villarreal beat Italy’s Atalanta to secure their last 16 spot in the Champions League.
Villarreal defeated Atalanta 3-2 in the final match of Group F at the Gevis Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.
Villarreal, who recorded 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses in the group stage, advanced to the round of 16 after securing second place in the group behind leaders Manchester United.
The match between the two teams was originally scheduled to be held on the 9th, but was postponed by a day due to heavy snowfall in Italy.
Villarreal opened the gates with Danzouma’s goal in the third minute of the first half.
It was followed by an extra goal from Kafu in the 42nd minute and Danzuma’s opening goal in the 6th minute of the second half to lead the team by three goals.
Atalanta, who counterattacked late, scored two goals in the 26th and 35th minutes of the second half, but could not turn the game around.
