New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has hit out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over his captaincy controversy. The coach, who was surprised at the way India handled the captaincy of the ODI team, slammed the national selectors and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

He said that when Kohli announced his resignation as T20 captain, he could have been asked to step down as ODI captain or retain Kohli as captain in both formats.

‘I have not been able to talk to Kohli yet. His phone is switched off and the reason is unknown. In my opinion, as soon as Kohli resigned as T20 captain, the selectors should have asked him to step down as ODI captain as well. Or he should have been asked not to resign. ‘ – Khel Justice said in an interview with Podcast.

Rajkumar Sharma said the selectors should have informed Kohli of the reason before removing him from the captaincy, adding that there was no transparency on the part of the BCCI.

The BCCI on Wednesday announced the replacement of Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as the captain of India’s white ball cricket team.

Ganguly himself had said that the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the captain of the ODI format was a joint decision of the board and the selectors. He also revealed that the selectors did not agree with the formation of two captains in the white ball formats. Ganguly had said that he and the selectors had spoken to Kohli before announcing Rohit Sharma as captain.

However, there has been no reaction from Virat Kohli since the ODI captaincy was vacated. Earlier, Kohli had announced on social media that he would step down as T20 captain after the T20 World Cup.

Earlier, it was reported that Kohli was upset with the board for removing him from the post of ODI captain as he had made it clear that he would continue to captain the ODI and Test teams. There have been reports that the player may not play in the ODI series of the tour of South Africa starting in December.
