Virat Kohli Quits Test Captaincy: Kohli’s personal decision; Ganguly with official response

Kolkata: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has made an official statement following the resignation of Virat Kohli as captain of the Indian Test team. The decision on Kohli’s captaincy was made yesterday. Ganguly later released his response.

Ganguly tweeted that it was Kohli’s personal decision to step down from the captaincy. His words … ” Under Kohli, the Indian team was able to make progress in all three formats. His decision is personal. The BCCI respects the decision. He will continue to be an important member of the team. Let Kohli lead the team to new heights. Kohli is a great cricketer. ” Ganguly concluded.

Kohli resigned following the Test series defeat against South Africa. Kohli was earlier removed from the captaincy of the scheduled over team. Kohli thanked the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country in the long run. Kohli also thanked former Indian MS Dhoni. “I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dhoni for finding me to be the man to lead Indian cricket,” Kohli said.

India to announce new Test captain ahead of tour of Sri Lanka Current vice-captain Rohit Sharma is widely expected to replace Kohli. Wicketkeeper-batsmen Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are also being considered.
