Former India captain Virat Kohli is in controversy after the Indian team lost the ODI series against South Africa. The controversy erupted when Kohli chewed gum during the national anthem before the start of the third match.
The video of Kohli chewing gum while singing the national anthem has gone viral on social media. He has been widely criticized. Many criticize Kohli for insulting India on foreign soil.
The BCCI has ridiculed someone on Twitter for tagging him as the country’s ambassador. Some said that this was not expected and that Kohli was ashamed of you.
Another man, who shared the video, said that this man, who has no morals or dignity, should be punished under the 1971 law for disrespecting the national anthem.
India won the toss and elected to field in the third ODI at Cape Town. The national anthem was played before the start of the competition. Kohli’s face was caught on camera this time around. The video also shows his teammates including Captain KL Rahul singing the national anthem.
After losing the match in Cape Town by a slight margin, Team India returns home with the embarrassment of a whitewash in the series. But Kohli shone in the match. Kohli contributed 65 runs in the match. He hit five fours off 84 balls. Kohli, along with opener Shikhar Dhawan, put on 98 for the second wicket.
Chasing a target of 288, India were bowled out for 283 in 49.2 overs. Cape Town had Kohli’s second half century in the series.
Virat Kohli has stepped down as Test captain on the 15th of this month. The announcement came after India lost the Test series 2-1 to South Africa. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said Kohli’s decision was personal.
