The parents-in-law filed for divorce against a daughter-in-law who had been caring for a son who had been in a vegetative state for 15 years.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) recently reported that Mr A and his wife, who live in Jilin province in northeastern China, filed for divorce earlier this month, saying, “I want give my daughter-in-law freedom.”

According to the report, Mr A’s son and his wife were taken care of by his wife while lying in bed in a vegetative state for 15 years. The couple, who felt sorry for this, filed a divorce case against their daughter-in-law as their son’s legal representative.

In the complaint, Mr. A and his wife said, “The daughter-in-law has devotedly taken care of her son,” and “Now we are filing a divorce lawsuit to give her a new chance at life.”

He also said, “I hope my son’s existence will no longer be a burden on my daughter-in-law,” and added, “We will take care of our son from now on.”

In the meantime, son and daughter-in-law have a daughter, and Mr A said he would look after his granddaughter together with his wife in order to give freedom to his daughter-in-law.
