An expert committee was also formed to conduct a study to find out if the construction of ports is the cause of coastal erosion.

The Adani Port authorities decided to lay the stone on Saturday after getting the High Court’s directive and the government’s permission. The strike committee’s intention was to stop it and cause casualties through stone throwing and violence.
The police report that the aim of the violence was riot. Port construction has not been going on for three months. Local residents are furious. Vicar General Eugene Perera, who heads the strike committee, is well aware of this situation. At every step, the government tried to prevent the peaceful atmosphere from breaking down. However, the strike committee was not prepared to understand the government’s attitude or stand by it.
