Gandhinagar: Dalit youth beaten up in Gujarat for wearing nice clothes and sunglasses The incident took place in Banaskantha district. According to the police, the youth named Jigar Shekhalia was beaten up by a group of upper caste people. The incident of violence happened on Tuesday. Jigar’s mother was also injured while trying to save the youth. Both are being treated in hospital.
Based on the complaint filed by the youth, a preliminary investigation report was filed against seven persons. According to Jigar’s complaint, when he was standing outside his house on Tuesday morning, the gang came to him, abused him and threatened to kill him. That night, standing outside the village temple, six men came to him and beat him with sticks, asking him why he was wearing nice clothes and sunglasses. The complaint also states that the mother, who rushed to save her, was beaten and threatened.
A case has been registered against seven people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Sections under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act have also been charged against the accused. However, none of the accused has been arrested so far.
